There are roughly 8,000 churches in Japan, and many of these congregations have less than 50 people. The northern region, Tohoku, is the closest to the epicenter of earthquake and subsequent tsunami. It has fewer churches and is a tight-knit community. With less than 1 percent of the population following Jesus Christ, Japan is one of the least-Christian countries in the developed world. It thus goes without saying that each church is of critical importance.
In partnership with CRASH, Gracepoint will be taking the challenge that followers of Jesus took in the book of ACTS 4.In 2011, Gracepoint churches across Burwood, Lidcombe and Auburn will take up the challenge into donating and selling their treasured goods to support believers in Japan.
The unity of the Japanese church
Churches in Tokyo are sending supplies to churches in the north. Less affected inland churches are helping churches on the devastated Pacific coast. Coastal churches are helping their neighbors in the community. All of this with little to no foreign help.
To complement the unity of the churches in Japan, Gracepoint will be providing global support to the Japanese churches, to support and build them up.
This is more than charity work.
